Everyone has that one thing they can’t leave their house without. Mine is lipstick. I just feel like my face looks super pale without lip color, and if I’m being honest, I feel a little naked without it. For me, lipstick is the thing that completes the look, ties everything together. After having to apply lipstick multiple times throughout the day, I began wondering, if maybe, there was a lipstick that would last the entire day. I had tried multiple brands and nothing seemed to work.
I had been using lip gloss and the lipstick that came in the roll up tubes, and I began thinking that maybe the liquid lipstick would be a better option. Because I like to change up my lip color, and wanted to try several liquid lipstick brands, I went to my local drugstore instead of a more expensive store like Sephora or Mac.
I found multiple liquid lipsticks (at Walmart) that claimed to last either, “all day,” or “24 hours.” I bought one of each brand and put each one to the test.
L’OREAL Paris Infallible 2-Step Lip Color: This lip color claims to last for 24 hours. The color options are good, and the box states: “Ultra HD color with high concentrated pigments and a color lock balm to protect and seal your color.” While I did like the color selections, I did not like the texture of the lip balm. It seemed more “chapstick” like, instead of that glossy look I was aiming for. Grade: B-
RIMMEL Provocalips 16 Hour Kiss Proof Lip Color: This lip color, as stated in the name of the product, claims to last 16 hours. The lipstick also claims that it does not transfer when eating, drinking, or kissing. It also claims to keep your lips feeling moisturized all day. I did find that the color does indeed last for a longtime. However, I am not fond of the topcoat. I felt like it wore of quickly leaving my lips feeling less moisturized, and somewhat sticky. Grade: A-
REVLON ColorStay Overtime Lipcolor: This brand has multiple color choices which I like. The lipstick goes on easily, but it’s the topcoat that I dislike…a lot! Instead of being more like a balm, this is more of a liquid. I feel like you have to apply a lot to get that glossy look, and it’s sticky and not long lasting. Grade: C
NYX Lingerie: This lip color is only available in matte nude shades. There is no topcoat to apply which I did not like. I prefer more of a glossy look to a matte look. I also noticed this lip color does not last for more than an hour or two at a time. Grade: D
MAYBELLINE Super Stay 24 Color: This lipstick comes in 34 shades and claims to last for up to 24 hours. The lipstick applies easily, and the topcoat is glossy and makes your lips feel moisturized. I was really happy with this one. There is no transfer when eating or drinking, and the color may not last a full 24 hours, but it does last me throughout the day, however, at times when I wear this, later in the day I notice that it will start flaking off. Grade: A-
COVERGIRL Outlast All Day Lip Color: Again, this lipstick comes in multiple shades and unlike the other brands, this comes with a tube of lip color and a tube of topcoat. This lipstick claims to last 16 hours without transferring. I’ll be honest. This is my favorite of the bunch. The lipstick is easy to apply, it’s long lasting, the topcoat is by far my favorite, and there is absolutely no flaking, wearing off, or dry lip feeling. Grade: A
All of the above lipsticks are under $10 and can be found at your local drugstore. Give them a try and let me know which one is your favorite. Is there another drugstore brand out there that you love that I didn’t try? Let me know, I’d love to try it out.
