For years, a dream of mine has been to attend a show, any show, at New York Fashion Week. By some stroke of luck, last year I was invited to a few runway shows, and I absolutely loved it, and knew that I wanted to make this an annual trip. There are so many bloggers, press, industry professionals, photographers, etc. that want to get into as many shows as possible, that it’s a wonder how I was invited to the few I was. Luckily, those same designers whose shows I attended last year, also sent invites to their shows this year. I was ecstatic and beyond humbled that they would want little ol’ me in attendance. Besides runway shows, there are parties, events, presentations, brand meetings, and showroom visits that happen during Fashion Week. This year, I was lucky enough to attend the Style Collective party, the Obvious.ly event, the Banana Republic Presentation, and the Blogger and Brand event. All were a treat and so fun to be a part of.
Fashion Week is hectic! You are trying to juggle shows, eating, taxi rides, uber rides, walking in heels, standing in line, networking, and all this on very little sleep. It’s exhausting, but so worth it! Here is how day one played out.
We (all the girls on my side of the family) took the red eye flight from Salt Lake City and arrived in New York at 5:45 am. From the airport, we took a taxi to our hotel where we were lucky enough to check in! We dropped off our luggage, and headed out to breakfast, and then returned to the hotel so I could get ready for my first show of the day. Leaving with plenty of time (traffic is horrible in NY), my daughter and I arrived just in the knick of time…to wait in line. We waited and waited and waited, and then ended up not getting into the show. Unfortunately, this stuff happens. Luckily, we had the Vaishali show later that afternoon, which we made it to. One of my favorite things about attending runway shows, is seeing the creativity from each designer. Many of the pieces modeled are things the average person would never wear, but then there are always pieces that I would wear in a heartbeat. The Vaishali show did not disappoint.
Later that evening, I attended the Style Collective Party with my sister in law. I am very shy when it comes to putting myself out there, and I knew that this party would be a bit intimidating to go to on my own, so I was glad I was able to bring her with me. The venue was gorgeous, the food great, and the experience long lasting. A great first day at Fashion Week!
Fashion and Sense of Style is something that is different for everyone. We all have our “favorite” pieces, whether that be a dress, a t-shirt and jeans, or tennis shoes and sweats. When it comes to fashion, I’m all about finding unique pieces that fit with my sense of style. What is my sense of style? That has taken me some time to determine, but here is what I came up with. For me, I tend to lean toward looks that are modern, classic, fun, slightly elegant and trendy. I feel more comfortable in a pair of jeans paired with a wedge or heel than jeans and sneakers. I much prefer a skirt and tee to a pair of sweats and tee. That’s just who I am.
On my recent trip to Paris, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Lilith, a women’s clothing boutique. This was such a fun experience, and one that I will definitely never forget. The greatest part about Lilith, is the clothing here is exactly how I define my style, full of unique pieces that are built upon classic, elegant, and trendy looks, which is why I specifically sought them out.
I met with Elodie, the manager of the Lilith shop in Paris, and we spent a couple hours together talking about the brand and trying on tons of beautiful clothing. Elodie was so sweet and went above and beyond in working with me on this collaboration. Currently, they have their summer line in store, and each line is focused on a theme. The summer theme being “Myths and Fantasies.” I learned that Lilith was founded in 1987, and is a women’s creative and original brand. Their”offbeat fabric blends and mixtures of non-traditional colors set the tone of Lilith collections.” The thing I love about the brand, is the attention to detail. Each piece is unique and the detail you find is amazing. Lilith promotes ” a different type of fashion, genuine and creative, funny and humane, singular and audacious, elegant and free.”
One, if not all of these adjectives, describe to a tee the pieces that I styled from Lilith. The overalls are definitely fun, creative, and even somewhat audacious. The skirt is creative, elegant, and unique. The black button down shirt is a classic with a twist, making it unique, fun, and creative.

If you will be in the Paris area, stop by the Lilith shop. It’s cute , quaint, and so much different than any other shop you will come across. If you won’t be traveling to France anytime soon, they also have a shop in San Francisco as well as New York.
A special thank you to Fanny and Elodie! You both were wonderful to work with and went above and beyond in accommodating my schedule. Thank you Elodie for taking time (on your day off) to share with me information on the Lilith brand and for allowing me to shop for a couple hours. It was a pleasure to meet you and I loved every minute of my time at Lilith.
